Fleas are flightless parasites of warm-blooded animals, characterized y a side to side flattening of their bodies and a well developed ability to jump. The lateral compression of the body helps the flea to move quickly through fur or clothing. Each species prefers to suck blood from a particular species of animal but when the preferred host is absent each will bite others, including man, causing considerable local irritation to susceptible persons. |
